What is fanfic hurting? Who is it hurting?
Rules about stalking? Rules about fighting? Rules about cussing and illegal mp3s? Okay, I understand that. But I don't see the problem with talking about fanfic. There are way more unintelligent posts on hanson.net than posts about fanfic.
I have to keep reminding myself that I don't think this is them (that's what I tell myself, anyway). It's just their management deciding they have total power over everything. The boys need to wise up though. Get people who aren't going to piss their fans off every other day, because in the end, they are the ones losing out.
This is just one of the most ridiculous things I've heard from the Hanson camp. Not cool, dude. Not cool.

I wonder if this is part of the "new and exciting" stuff we were promised for 2006? Jerks. Ella! We don't tolerate talking about dicks around here! You have to name them. Something like, Adolf, or Napoleon. And if you can't think of anything, Richard will do...

I understand that it really sucks for authors of fanfic to no longer be able to discuss and advertise their work on Hanson.net ( I enjoy reading it all). But look at it reasonably....Hanson and their administators are only trying to control the environment of their boards. There is a reason they are banning fanfic just like they ban cussing....because children under 18 frequent that board. I know fanfic is mostly harmless, but admit it, there is some nasty stuff out there (fiction involving drug use, incest, sex sex and more sex) that Hanson does not want to advertise to children.
Don't tell Hanson to grow up. They are being responsible. Sorry.

If Hanson.net is so incredibly concerned about parenting, then there shouldn't be discussions about being gay, sex, religion, etc, etc. Those are things that a parent should be in charge of telling their children about. If a parent allows their child on the internet at all, they must expect them to come in contact with sensitive issues. That well worn argument doesn't work for me.
AND, if Hanson themselves are the people who don't want fanfic in any way, shape or form on Hanson.net, then they need to OWN it. I want to know why it's not allowed. I'd totally understand if one of them, or all of them took exception to some of the more over-the-top stories. But, I don't feel Hanson gives a crap. It's been around since way before Hanson.net! They're allowing a few over-zealous people to run their site and it's costing them. Not just fanfic fans, but others as well. Hanson is losing fans quicker than I can keep track and it's going to show in fewer memberships, fewer albums sold, fewer tickets sold. The fans are the reason Hanson is still around. Would Jay Leno have them on his show if he didn't know there'd be an audience? Nope. Would the House of Blues have them do shows there if not enough tickets were sold? Nope.
Hanson needs to get their shit together. They have no one to blame this time around for an album taking 3 or 4 years to get made. If they allow their site to be run into the ground when it's the one thing that represents them, they'll have no one to blame but themselves because they allowed it to happen.
Are You Listening, Hanson? Because if you're not, you're gonna be crying in your Wheaties and all the college kids in the world aren't gonna come to your rescue because they don't give a shit about Hanson. But your fans do--the ones that have been there for you through it all, and those new fans that had the guts to give you a listen even though everyone else said you suck.
There--that's how I feel about it. It's NOT just about fanfic--that's just a big old symptom of the real problem, which is Hanson taking their fans for granted.

I have a question. How did Hanson go about banning Fan fic from H.net? I have not gone to that board in about a year. Do they just delete the threads that are started about it, or did they release an official statement? Have they booted people out for talking about it? Just curious.
And have faith....if poeple want to read Hanfic, this site is pretty easy to find.

It was pretty covert actually. Threads started getting deleted and someone suddenly realized there was a new rule. The infamous number 15. And of course, all hell broke loose and the mods, watchdogs etc. began to tell us to get a life among other things. No reasons were given. The rule states no links and no fiction posted, but threads were deleted that were just talking about it. At least one person was suspended, not for just talking about it, but for reposting. It's just ridiculous. And the fact that they refuse to tell us exactly why just adds to it all. Actually, this site seems to be a worry to them--only mine and Stephanie's signatures were deleted--replaced with a nice generic "no fanfic please". Months ago when we did the awards, every post I made about it got deleted. At that time, Adam was kind enough to email me a reason being that the link I'd posted linked to a site (this one) which linked to sites with slash stories. So, of course, all the hard work and hours of reading we did went to waste because it was a link that linked to links.
