www.hanson.net/Forums/ShowPost.aspx?PostID=4651069Krystal and I have been commenting in this thread about why we don't think that fan fic is a waste of time. I am also all about saying that I truly don't think that Hanson don't like fan fic. I don't know if you read the Melbourne interview, but the reporter asked a very leading question about fan fic... it was just a very biased question asked in a way that they could only respond negatively. I would like all of you with h.net to maybe go and contribute... nothing attacking or inflammatory, but just maybe the reasons why YOU write fan fic of the Hanson variety. Thanks!

i just replied.
that chick, something with an "s" she's a nasty one.
i hate when hanson fans get all elitist about stuff like that. its sad to see rifts like that between groups of fans. and so not worth it.

Aileen, that was seriously one of the most beautiful and compelling arguments/reasons for the value of hanfic I've ever read.
Thanks so much for your thoughtful reply!

thank you, steph.
i didn't even know i was going to say that, until it was all typed out.
but its all true. every word of it. and i would say it to hanson's face(s).
hanson inspired me. they brought me to writing, and to web design. and both of those things have had an enormous impact on my life.
i cannot imagine my life without hanson. not because i can't imagine not having their music, or even not having *them*. but because of their influence. the things they lead me to, and the way that has shaped my life.
i don't know where i'd be without that.

Aileen, I am so in love with your repsonses in this thread... would you mind if I took them and made them a page for VA? Sort of a treastise on why Hanson fan fiction even exists?
They are truly beautiful and they say so much. I can just copy and paste them as they are. Or, whatever...
I was going to work on the Reveiws page this weekend. I would love to be able to include a "why fanfic" essay.
Let me know!

Okay, so I'm really behind here, but I finally replied... after everyone is probably sick of the topic. But hey, I contributed!

I'm late, but I contributed, too. LOL. My soapbox is straining under the weight of it It bugs the heck out of me when people judge hanfic--how many billions of books have all of us read that feature real people--or something akin to them? Egad. *Scholastic published Moffatts fiction!* A recent bestseller involved a detective saving Jane Eyre from an evil genuis of the author's own creation! And Hanfic is even more amazing, because it's utterly democratic. Publishing in the "real" world is riddled with politics and crap, but each and every person in the world is just a geocities page away from having a real, true voice. It doesn't matter if you have connections or are a grown up or have a degree in creative writing. All that matters is that you have a modem and a dream. (However pathetically cheesy it may sound...hehe....)

what forum is this, and what is the thread title? the link is broken. It's in Mature Musings and it's still up towards the top. For the link to work, you have to be logged in to h.net.

I don't have h.net, as because I'm Australian it is a complete and utter waste of money, but I wouldn't even touch the public side of the site with a forty-foot-long barge pole (even if I am a member there). No offence to any of the members, but in my opinion it's just gone completely downhill since hline and h.net merged.
But if you want my opinion of why I write hanfic, it's this - they are my inspiration. They are the sole reason why I even started writing in the first place. I don't care that the only place I can have my writing read is online, because there are quite a few people out there who like my work. One of my friends, Ashley, is also a hanfic author (and a sadist like myself ;D), and that alone forms the basis of our friendship. I would never have met her if not for that. If not for Hanson and hanfic, I wouldn't be writing now.
