I'm wondering if anyone prefers writing Hanfic where the boys aren't famous, or aren't even a band. Or when you do write them this way, do the characters turn out differently? Which brother do you think is the most convincing "regular guy" (easiest to write as not famous)? Just curious.

I actually like the "alternate universe" stories... as long as they are very well written. I think one of the best out there is "Falling" and "Farther In." So, so good and so, so sad. www.geocities.com/notsarahlee/frames.htmlMust reads for anyone who loves Hanson... And some of the most convincing AU Hanfic out there.

I actually have a hard time with stories where the boys aren't famous(getting into them, as well as believing them); I get too wrapped up in the details. I mean, what they do is such a huge part of who they are. However, I would say that Zac would be the easiest to write as a non-famous boy; he seems so regular. --Morgan

I would have to vote for Zac, too. He does seem like the most normal of the three of them. I remember one story, it's been forever since I've read it, but it was called "Red Running Shoes"... and it wasn't really Hanfic, per se, because I don't think it ever actually called the boy(s) by name... but I really liked it. It was written so that you could imagine a Hanson in it, but then it could have passed as an original fic, too. I like both -- stories where they are famous AND some where they're not. Really, as long as it's well-written, I'll go for it.

Great minds think alike, Stephanie! That's the exact story that came to mind when I read Casey's question.
And I agree, as long as it's at least semi-based on them, and well written, I'm all for it.
I just don't care for a Hanson fiction where Taylor is a goth and Zac is a gang member and Isaac is a retired teacher and they all live in a brothel. I mean, where's the Hanson in that? Just write a regular story. Then again, no one gives feedback on non-Hanfic...

Haha! Yep, my next one is gonna take place in old New Orleans, in the red light district. They'll be jazz musicians! Hmmm....better get to thinking about that whole time travel thing...

AU hanfics are my specialty for some reason. I guess I like thinking about a world where Hanson isn't a band, just three normal guys. And I've pulled some rather interesting ideas out of my head *chuckles* There's one AU story that I've been working on for a year now, which I'm considering ditching because I've only just got up to chapter 4 and it's taking up so much of my writing time. I did lay it aside for awhile, but it just won't die...

Taylor could play piano in a brothel, like a white (very white) Jellyroll Morton I agree that Zac fits the "non-famous" stories better. I mean, Taylor is just not your usual guy, even if he wasn't famous (well, semi-famous). Isaac is a little more normal, I guess--but not quite in the same way Zac is.

Ah, totally Taylor Cinnamon Bun Hanson! Woo-Hoo! What's not to swoon over about that?!!!
Zac seems very down to earth--so that's probably why he's so easily written as the boy next door.
And post that story somewhere, and share the 4 chapters!

I didn't feel like logging into my FTP account, so it's with Geosh*tties: EternityIt isn't the best example of my writing, to be honest. I am well and truly stuck with this one, and to think it's taken me this long to get as far as I have *shakes head* Disgraceful...

I've always wanted to write a story where they aren't famous, but...alas...it never seems to happen. I think the band is too much a part of who they are to me for me to see them any other way. I would still like to do it though because it would be more like a real work of fiction rather than fan fiction. Meaning it would require a little more creativity, which I hope to have some day. I admire people who pull it off.

Oh Barbara, you could do it! Get back on that horse!
Lilith! Could I have read this before?! That is so weird, because I almost mentioned a story where the Taylor character was deaf--it had stuck with me!

You might've read it before - I keep putting it up and taking it down off of my site. I think I'm going to keep it down until I get a lot more done.
