Has anyone read any non-Hanfic that screams Hanson to them? (Well. Other than this: store.eharlequin.com/new_book_detail.jhtml?PRODID=7719)I have a taste for trashy romance novels (surprise, surprise), and my absolute favorite of the genre is Judith McNaught's Perfect. I seriously believe it must have been written as Robert Redford fanfic, but it can easily be turned Hansony. In it, a strong, silent director named "Zack" is framed for killing his wife, and ends up escaping from prison and taking hostage a sweet, innocent school teacher while hiding out in romantic mountain lodge. LOL. You can just imagine where it goes from there. I'd love to read more portable non-Hanfic with Hansony themes...anyone have any suggestions? :) Amanda

buuut. i can ask my roomie. she's a huge reader. an d i've converted her into a fan. and she's got an especially large store of romance novels, so she might know of some.

I'd love to read more portable non-Hanfic with Hansony themes...anyone have any suggestions? Amanda Well, I think the most non-Hanfic but with Hansony themes writer out there is Francesca Lia Block. But I'm sure you've read all of her stuff... or at least know of it through Laura. I don't read much romance, strangely enough... One book (or books), that has strangely Hansonesque moments to it, is the 2 part biography of Elvis by Peter Guaralnick... I say book mostly because I've only finished the first one, but it has some signs of mania and of having to learn to deal with something bigger than yourself, etc, that I'm sure Hanson had to deal with. Recently, I've been in love with the Bartimeus Trilogy by Johnathon Stroud. Very cool, very imaginative, very fun to read. They are kind of like a smarter, meaner version of Harry Potter And at this moment, I'm reading Fall On Your Knees by Anne Marie MacDonald. Not a romance by any stretch of the imagination, but very sad and very engrossing.... Wish I was more helpful. Stephanie

"Gravitation" is the name of the Manga book that my friend Amy swears is Hanson cartoonized. I haven't checked it out, but she showed me some pics, and I can definitely see it. Fun stuff!

i spoke with the roomie, and she's not familiar with much hanfic outside of my own (which she generally betas for me). so she was unsure of my criteria for hanficy non-hanfic.
but. she did say that nora roberts does stuff often that involves brothers. like, there's 3 brothers in a family, and each one of them is the focus of one book, and stuff like that. dunno if that works for you, but i thought i'd throw that out there.
my roomie is a nora roberts addict. i figure she's worth checking out.

Maeve Binchy always slightly reminds me of Hanfic, if Hanson lived in Ireland...maybe it's just the way the characters are written and how out of all her books there are only a few that really are entirely different than all the rest that reminds me so much of Hanfic.... but I dunno.
Another author that reminds me slightly of fanfic is Anna Maxted, Running in Heels, and Behaving Like Adults, as well as Getting Over It all for some reason had a strange Hanfic vibe to me as I read them.
Stephanie, I know exactly what you mean about Fall On Your Knees...holy shit is that book captivating or what?
